NOME, Alaska — A Russian fuel tanker has successfully navigated through the frozen Bering Sea in an emergency operation to deliver fuel to the remote Alaskan town of Nome, The Province reported.

The Russian tanker Renda, which had to cut through nearly 300 miles of ice, began pumping much-needed fuel for the town’s 3,500 residents Monday night.

The iced-in town did not receive its usual pre-winter delivery due to a storm in the fall.
