Chinese government cracks down on counterfeit drugs

BEIJING — The Chinese government is stepping up its efforts to crack down on the country’s counterfeit drug market, Bloomberg reported.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, authorities have arrested more than 1,900 people and seized $182 million worth of counterfeit drugs and related goods.

The fake drugs were illegally advertised to treat illnesses including hypertension, diabetes, skin diseases and cancer.

The Ministry of Public Security said in a statement that it will offer as much as 50,000 yuan to anyone who contributes to uncovering fake medicine rings and operations.
