KERALA, India — The local government in Kerala, India, has kicked off a new initiative to help grow the state’s food-processing sector, FnBnews.com reported.
The “Emerging Kerala 2012” initiative will set up food-processing centers at the district level in order to overcome issues such as lack of transportation and cold storage.
The emphasis will be on encouraging better processing facilities for local produce like coconut.
"This was the first-of-its-kind in the state as food processing appears to be emerging as a hot sector across districts," T P Thomaskutty, executive director, Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), said.
