GATLINBURG, Tenn. — A construction worker who was fatally injured in an earthen wall collapse at the Gatlinburg Wastewater Treatment Plant last week has been identified as 58-year-old Michael Eugene Wells of Candler, N.C., knoxnews.com reported.
Wells died after being struck from behind by loose dirt and rock during the Feb. 23 late morning incident.
Wells’ employer, NEO Corp., of Canton, N.C., was working on behalf of the city to demolish a 30-foot-high basin at the plant following a wall collapse in April, which killed two workers and released more than a million gallons of raw sewage into the nearby Little Pigeon River.
