3i-Rotary-Vane-FeederIn May at PTXi, 3i’s Technologies introduced the Rotary Vane metering feeder, which it says adds unique and revolutionary technology to the art of feeding, batching and filling. Located in Vineland, N.J., and representing 125 years of process design and weighing experience, 3i’s Technologies is a supplier of precision, dynamic weighing and batching systems.

The “RVF” is optimized for continuous feeding and offers distinct advantages over typical screw and vibratory approaches.
Two innovative key components include an inlet specially designed to ensure consistent material flow into the rotary feed drum and “pneumatic evacuation,” to ensure reliable feeding, batching and filling even with difficult flowing materials.

Standard features include a compact and space-efficient design that assures ease of installation in new or existing process lines, as well as easy maintenance and disassembly for cleaning, without tools. It provides gentle metering and complete discharge of material, preventing segregation and degradation. Materials flow on a first-in, first-out basis, achieving mass flow. The feeder is available for volumetric or gravimetric systems in both gain-in-weight and loss-in-weight configurations.

The Rotary Vane Feeder is said to be an alternative to screw feeders because there is no segregation, given that there is no friction, packing or dragging of materials — keeping your mix integrity and particle size distribution intact.

For more than 100 years, accuracy of gain-in-weight or loss-in-weight systems has been defined primarily by scale size and resolution. While these remain a factor, the key element really, says 3i’s Technologies, is design of the metering device, the most important element in determining accuracy. Rotary Vane Technology is based upon filling the vane on a consistent basis and ensuring complete discharge of each vane in the process. This guarantees, its makers say, that a completely empty vane is presented for fill on the next rotation.
