Topic: Selecting a control valve with actuator Application: Control valve to maintain liquid level in a 7,000 gallon tank. Draw down rate varies, but averages 100 GPM.

Product: Grape juice.

Valve construction: 3" Size. Wafer body is OK. Easily cleanable, but does not need to meet 3A Dairy Standards.

Question: What type of valve is suitable? Ball? Ball with Vee notch? Butterfly? Other options? I have heard that ball and butterfly valves are good for full open and close off applications, but not great for throttling.

Bob Donnelly:

We recommend a Flo-Tite 3 inch Multi-Choice Sanitary Ball  valve with a 15 degree V port with a cavity filler, virgin TFE seats and seals  with a lever handle. The modulating V-ball provides accurate control of the  downstream flow rates, from simple On-off to modulating control applications.
