Food processor and ethanol producer Archer Daniels Midland Co. has announced a joint venture with polymer supplier PolyOne Corp. to develop bio-based plasticizers for use in polymer formulations, according to the Associated Press. Plasticizers are used to make plastics softer and more flexible. Most are petroleum-based products. Rather than using petroleum, the companies will attempt to develop and sell plasticizers from corns and oilseed.
