NEW CASTLE, Australia — The Australian government last week ordered an ammonia plant in New Castle to shut down after it leaked a plume of hazardous hexavalent chromium into the suburb of Stockton, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

The plant, which is owned by Orica, is located on Kooragang Island.
