According to Dow Jones Business News, German chemicals producer BASF AG said Tuesday its products containing the insecticide ingredient Fipronil have been banned in France following an investigation into its environmental safety. French agriculture minister Herve Gaymard ordered the ban on all products containing Fipronil until a probe is completed by Dec. 31, 2005 on whether the chemical is responsible for killing bees. BASF said its Regent Ts product, which contains the active ingredient Fipronil, was subsequently banned in France. The company declined to comment on how many of BASF''s products were impacted by the decision, or what volume of sales would be lost. The French ruling also affects other companies making Fipronil.
