The Associated Press reports that Bay Valley Foods LLC, a unit of TreeHouse Foods Inc., said that it will close its La Junta pickle and relish facilities, affecting more than 150 workers. The company said that reductions in pickle demand and increased costs have forced a decision to close both a production plant and a distribution facility in February and June, respectively. The closing affects 153 workers, 39 of which were laid off in March and will now be called back to work until February. Production will be redistributed to five remaining pickle facilities, as the company seeks a buyer for the 200,000 square-foot plant and distribution center. The company expects to save $1.1 million in 2005 and $900,000 in 2006 from the closings.
