As part of its North American Project Database, Industrial Info has identified 27 plants in the Chemical Processing Industry that have permanently closed their doors during 2008. These plants equaled approximately 1,600 lost jobs in the industry over the year. During the remainder of this year, at least eight additional CPI plant closures are expected in seven states and provinces. Each of the plants scheduled to close employ 50 or more people, and a few employ more than 100 people, impacting an estimated 1,000 CPI jobs in all. FMC Corporation and Olin Corporation are among some of the companies either closing or demolishing plants in the near future.
