GREENSBORO, N.C. — An equipment malfunction at an Ecoflo chemical plant in Greensboro, N.C., caused a chemical release that shut down a section of a local thoroughfare for more than two hours Wednesday, JournalNow.com reported.
Authorities believe the green cloud that was released was comprised of nitric acid, a potentially flammable chemical that can cause irritation and breathing difficulty if inhaled.
Firefighters used water to disperse the cloud.
No injuries were reported.
