BEIJING — U.S. oil giant ConocoPhillips announced today that it is starting to evaluate the impact of its oil spill on the marine environment in China’s northern Bohai Bay, Reuters reported.
According to Chinese media, fishermen in northern China''s Hebei Province were preparing to sue ConocoPhillips in connection with the deaths of large numbers of scallops in Bohai Bay.
Economic losses incurred by the fishing industry are believed to be between 150 million yuan and 170 million yuan ($23.5 million-$26.6 million), the article stated.
