NEW LENOX TOWNSHIP, Ill. — According to CBS Chicago, drivers of two vehicles were drag racing early Saturday when they crashed through a fence and slammed into an oil pipeline owned by Enbridge Inc., causing a deadly fire.
Two men, Zachary Orel and Bart Lenz, were killed in the blaze.
Enbridge said the pipeline will remain shut down for up to four days as crews work to repair the damage.
“When you hit a liquid fuel line, usually it’s not very good. They can ignite and there was ignition,” New Lenox Fire Protection District Chief Jon Mead said.
