Bloomberg reports as much as 30
percent of Florida’s crops may have been harmed by freezing weather, and with
losses expected to reach hundreds of millions of dollars. In the coldest spots,
citrus groves reached the low to mid 20s Fahrenheit in the past week. Florida
is the world’s biggest orange grower, after Brazil, and the largest U.S. citrus
producer. The state’s farmers also harvest strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers
and other vegetables.
