LYON, France — U.S. agricultural biotech company Monsato was declared guilty in a French court on Monday for the chemical poisoning of a grain farmer, Reuters reported.
The farmer, Paul Francois, claims he suffered neurological problems including memory loss, headaches and stammering after being exposed to Monsato’s Lasso weedkiller.
Francois blames the company for not providing adequate warnings on the product label, according to the story.
"It is a historic decision in so far as it is the first time that a (pesticide) maker is found guilty of such a poisoning," François Lafforgue, Francois''s lawyer, said.
