HEERLEN, Netherlands — A plot to infiltrate the corporate computer systems of Dutch chemical company DSM has been foiled, The Register reported.
Hackers left several malware-infected USB flash drives in the company’s parking lot in hopes that unsuspecting employees would connect them to company-owned workstations.
However, upon finding one of the drives, an employee handed it over to DSM’s IT department. System administrators scanned the device and found a password-stealing keylogger, which was designed to upload stolen usernames and passwords to a hacker-controlled server.
The perpetrators of the attempted cyber attack are unknown at this time.
