LONG BEACH, Calif. — Health officials closed beaches after a 12,000 gallon spill in Compton sent sewage into the Los Angeles River and downstream about 15 miles to Long Beach, The San Francisco Chronicle reported.
According to the article, all beaches in Long Beach are off limits to swimmers and surfers until bacteria levels return to safe levels.
A blocked sewer line is believed to have caused the spill.
