Heating oil sparks fire at South Carolina chemical plant

FORT MILL, S.C. — A fire Tuesday at the Nation Ford Chemical plant in Fort Mill, S.C., forced several employees to evacuate and caused approximately $100,000 in damage, The Charlotte Observer reported.

Workers were performing maintenance on a heating unit Tuesday afternoon when oil used for heating processes ignited.

Firefighters were called to the scene and quickly had the blaze under control.

No injuries were reported.

According to the company’s website, Nation Ford Chemical manufacturers specialty organic chemicals, including intermediates, polymers and colorants.
