Israeli scientist wins Nobel Prize in Chemistry

STOCKHOLM — Israeli scientist Dan Shechtman has been named the winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work in the field of crystallography, Haaretz Daily Newspaper reported.

Shechtman, a professor at Haifa’s Technion Institute, was honored for his 1982 discovery of atom patterns called quasicrystals, chemical structures previously thought impossible.

Shechtman is the tenth Israeli to win the Nobel Prize.
