According to bizjournals.com, Kansas has recovered $5.8 million in Medicaid fraud settlements during the past couple of weeks. The largest chunk — $4.25 million — came from a settlement with GlaxoSmithKline, which allegedly overpriced its drugs. An additional $1.5 million came from a nationwide settlement with Forest Pharmaceuticals. The company allegedly marketed off-label drugs and distributed unapproved ones. It paid $148 million total in the settlement. Kansas also received almost $112,000 of a $600 million nationwide Medicaid settlement with drug manufacturer Allergan, which allegedly marketed Botox for uses not approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Finally, the state received more than $52,000 from a $9 million nationwide settlement with Kos Pharmaceuticals, which allegedly engaged in kickback violations and off-label marketing.
