Pepsi Bottling Company, the largest global bottler of Pepsi-Cola drinks, is seeing signs that the slowdown in the U.S. is spreading to its global customers, as reported by Financial Times. Soft consumer demand in the U.S. spread during the third quarter, leading to sales volume declines in Europe and Mexico. In Europe, total volume of cases sold fell six percent. Economic factors ranging from economic volatility and the impact of food inflation in Russia, to the effects of the housing slump in Spain are to blame. In Mexico, where case volumes were down nine percent, cash remittances from the U.S. have fallen to their lowest level in over a decade, leading to declines in consumer confidence.
