DOVER, Ohio — Problems with a flowmeter caused a mixture of steam and decomposing dipropylene glycol to be released at Dover Chemical Corp. on May 21, the company announced Wednesday.
The vapor release shut down the plant and forced the closure of nearby Interstate 77.
According to Dover Chemical’s Executive Vice President of Operations Tom Freeman, the release was a result of an inaccurate raw material charge to the reactor caused by problems with a flowmeter.
“Currently, the chamber where the incident occurred has been emptied, cleaned and we are doing inspections,” Freeman said.
