WASHINGTON — On Wednesday, Maryland’s Board of Public Works approved $17 million in construction grants for the Blue Plains Sewage Plant, which serves Washington, D.C., suburban Maryland and northern Virginia, The Associated Press reported.
The grants will help pay for upgrades that will cut nitrogen discharges by 83 percent, the article stated.
The Blue Plains Sewage Plant is the largest single source of nitrogen entering the Chesapeake Bay.
