MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas — More than a dozen people were hospitalized Friday following an ammonia leak at a Pilgrim’s Pride meat processing plant in northeast Texas, reported.

A Pilgrim’s Pride spokeswoman said contract workers were performing maintenance on the plant roof at about 2:30 p.m. when the leak began.

The plant was immediately evacuated and 17 workers were taken to the hospital for examination. No serious injuries were reported.
