According to the Associated Press, Moyer Packing Co. has been fined $61,000 for air quality violations at its Franconia Township rendering plant in Pennsylvania last year, the state Department of Environmental Protection said Monday. Inspectors found at the June visit that the company was not properly maintaining some air pollution control devices and was failing to monitor and record required information on some units such as water flow rates, pressure and temperature, DEP regional director Joseph Feola said. Moyer Packing is a division of Virginia-based Smithfield Foods Inc., which is the world''s largest hog producer and pork processor.
