NEW YORK — The UN Food and Agriculture Organization issued a warning this week that a mutant strain of the bird flu could be spreading in Asia by wild bird migrations, GlobalPost.com reported.

The new strain of the H5N1 virus is apparently immune to existing avian influenza vaccines and is spreading to previously virus-free countries, including Israel, the Palestinian territories, Bulgaria, Romania, Nepal and Mongolia.

“Wild birds may introduce the virus, but people’s actions in poultry production and marketing spread it,” the UN agency''s chief veterinary officer, Juan Lubroth, said in a statement.
