STOCKHOLM, Sweden — Presented
in a ceremony taking place during the World Water Week in Stockholm, PepsiCo
received the Stockholm Industry Water Award for its work to reduce water
consumption in its operations and to help solve water challenges on a broad
scale.
The
Stockholm Industry Water Award was established in 2000 by the Stockholm
International Water Institute in collaboration with the Royal Swedish Academy
of Engineering Sciences and the World Business Council for Sustainable
Development. Organizers say The World Water Week in Stockholm is an important annual
meeting place for those addressing the planet’s most urgent water-related
issues.
The
Stockholm Industry Water Award jury recognizes PepsiCo''s efforts to increase
water conservation. Speakers noted that the global food and beverage company
conserved nearly 16 billion liters of water in 2011, from a 2006 baseline,
through the application of water-saving equipment and technologies, creative
recycling and re-use, and by deploying a water management system throughout its
manufacturing facilities.
Ms.
Indra Nooyi, Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo says, “These water reduction efforts
are part of our overall ''Performance with Purpose'' strategy, which includes our
promise to provide a wide range of foods and beverages for local tastes; to
find innovative ways to minimize our impact on the environment by conserving
energy and water and reducing packaging volume; to provide a great workplace
for associates; and to respect, support and invest in the local communities
where the company operates.”
