ASHRAE-grade filter acts as combustible-dust flame arrestor

December 1, 2012

Camfil-Farr_Safety-Monitoring-FilterStockholm, Sweden-based Camfil Farr APC bills itself as a world leader in development and production of air filters and clean air solutions. And European companies aren’t prone to idle boasting.

In May 2012, Camfil Farr APC expanded its line of integrated safety monitoring filters (iSMF) for Gold Series cartridge dust collectors. In addition to HEPA filters for critical applications, introduced in 2011, the company now offers ASHRAE-grade filters as a more economical option. Conveniently integrated on top of the collector, these after-filter modules prevent collected dust from re-entering the workspace if there is a leak in the dust collector’s primary filtering system.

In addition, every iSMF module is now proven “to function as a flame arrestor for combustible dust on most re-circulating applications — the first such device to perform this dual function."

In fact, both modules have similar design and equal capacity, with filters that remove 99.97% of airborne particles of 0.3 micron in diameter and larger. Both versions allow convenient access to after-filters and easy change-out via the same platform used to access the primary filters. The integrated safety monitor filter design reduces total footprint of the dust collection system, saving floor space and eliminating costs associated with remotely mounted systems.
