Abbott spent $2.4 million on lobbying
Drug maker Abbott Laboratories spent $2.4 million lobbying the federal government in the first half of 2007, according to the Associated Press. Abbott lobbied Congress and federal agencies on dozens of issues including legislation to give the Food and Drug Administration more authority over drug companies and legislation changing how drugs are patented. Abbott also lobbied Congress on efforts to allow generic drug companies to make cheaper versions of biotech drugs. Under current law, generic companies can only market knockoff versions of traditional, chemical-based drugs.
