Actress Lucy Lawless arrested in oil protest
PORT TARANAKI, New Zealand — Actress Lucy Lawless was arrested Monday along with five Greenpeace environmental activists after the group spent four days protesting aboard an oil-drilling ship docked in New Zealand, Boston.com reported.
Lawless and the activists climbed a 174-foot drilling tower on the Noble Discoverer in Port Taranaki early Friday in an attempt to raise awareness about oil drilling in the Arctic, the article stated.
Police removed them from their perch Monday and charged them with burglary.
All have been released and are due to appear in a New Zealand court Thursday, according to the report.
Lawless, 43, is best known for her title role in the TV series “Xena: Warrior Princess.”
