Akzo Nobel to build paper chemicals plant in Brazil

Dow Jones Business News reports that Eka Chemicals, Dutch coatings, chemical and drug company Akzo Nobel''s pulp and paper chemicals unit, will invest in a new plant for the production of silica sols in Santa Cruz, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The construction has started and completion is aimed for the end of 2004. The silica sol produced at the new plant will primarily be used in the paper industry as a component of the Eka Chemicals micro particle retention system, Compozil. The new plant will have a capacity of 12,000 tons per year with infra structure for further growth. More than 360 paper machines use Eka Chemicals retention system today.
