BP Cut Corners in Days Before Blowout

June 15, 2010
The Associated Press reports BP made a series of money-saving shortcuts and blunders that increased the danger of an oil spill from a well that an engineer described as a “nightmare” six days before the blowout, according to documents released Monday. The House Energy and Commerce Committee released dozens of internal documents that outlined problems on the deep-sea rig in the days and weeks before the April 20 explosion. BP’s missteps emerged on the day that President Barack Obama made his fourth visit to the Gulf of Mexico, where he sought to assure residents that the government would “leave the Gulf Coast in better shape than it was before.”
