Chemical engineers, OSHA form alliance to prevent reactivity hazards
April 23, 2004
OSHA is forming an alliance with a branch of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), and others, to promote safe storage, handling and processing of chemicals. The agreement establishes the OSHA Alliance for Chemical Reactivity Hazard Management, which draws from the expertise of the Institute''s Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS). Besides CCPS and OSHA, the EPA and five other professional and trade organizations will join the campaign. The Alliance will help develop awarness and training materials to educate companies of all sizes on hazards presented by unstable chemicals and chemical mixtures that react unexpectedly.
