Chemical reaction causes explosion at Delaware facility
ELSMERE, Del. — A chemical reaction is being blamed for an explosion and fire that severely damaged a Delaware chemical manufacturing plant last week, The News Journal reported.
The explosion, which occurred around 8:18 p.m. Friday night, destroyed some concrete block walls and caused the partial collapse of the Homalite Corp. site.
According to state fire investigators, the explosion caused several hundred thousand dollars of damage, mostly to the exterior of the building.
No employees were in the building at the time of the blast and no injuries were reported.
Homalite produces two types of thermosetting polyester display filters.
