HOUSTON — Houston-based Enterprise Products Partners has announced plans to build a petrochemical plant along the Texas coast, the Houston Chronicle reported.
The company will build a plant for propane dehydrogenation, also known as PDH, that will be able to produce about 25,000 barrels a day of propylene, a raw material used to make plastics, synthetic fibers and other items.
Enterprise is joining a host of other companies — including Exxon Mobil Corp., Dow Chemical Co. and Chevron Phillips Chemical — who are taking advantage of low-cost feedstocks in the Gulf Coast area.
"The opportunity for this PDH project is directly attributable to the success producers have achieved in the growth of NGL-rich natural gas production through the development of the shale and non-conventional resource plays in the United States," said A.J. “Jim” Teague, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Enterprise''s general partner, Enterprise Products Holdings. "This has led to a rebirth of the U.S. petrochemical industry."
