Ex-Marathon Oil Worker gets Prison Time

June 22, 2010
According to the Associated Press, a federal judge in Wyoming has sentenced a former employee of Marathon Oil Corp. to serve 41 months in prison for his role in a kickback scheme. U.S. District Judge Alan B. Johnson sentenced 31-year-old Brett Mathew Lattin of Sheridan, Wyo., to the prison time. The judge also ordered Lattin to pay more than $2.4 million in restitution to Marathon Oil. Federal prosecutors say Lattin steered contracts to Mark Alan McGregor also of Sheridan, when Lattin was a contract supervisor for Marathon in 2006 and 2007. Prosecutors say Lattin approved millions in payments for work that was never performed in exchange for kickbacks. Lattin and McGregor pleaded guilty this spring to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. McGregor faces sentencing next month.
