PORT ALLEN, La. — An explosion and fire at an Air Liquide Specialty Chemicals plant Monday forced the evacuation of more than 40 homes in a one-mile radius, The Advocate reported.
The fire occurred in the plant yard where cylinders containing acetylene were stored.
An employee who was burned during the fire suffered minor injuries and was released from a hospital Monday afternoon.
Authorities said the cause of the fire and explosion will not be known until after firefighters can secure the site.
