FDA takes action against two California fish processors

April 19, 2012

SAN FRANCISCO — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is seeking to close two California fish processing plants over concerns about the spread of bacteria and other toxins in contaminated products, The Huffington Post reported.

Government inspectors detected the toxins that cause botulism and listeriosis on products tested at Blue Ocean Smokehouse in Half Moon Bay and the Yamaya processing plant in Torrance.

FDA requested that Yamaya stop manufacturing and distributing fish products until it corrects conditions at its processing plant and is seeking to shut down the Half Moon Bay processing plant entirely.
