Fire breaks out at BP’s Texas City refinery

TEXAS CITY, Texas — A fire was reported Tuesday afternoon at BP’s Texas City refinery, My Fox Houston reported.

The oil fire, which sent large plumes of smoke wafting into the air and prompted city officials to declare Level 2 emergency status, originated from a resid hydrotreater unit in the plant.

The fire was extinguished at 3:05 p.m. No injuries were reported.

A sulfur dioxide leak was reported less than two weeks ago at the same refinery.
