Food & beverage industry to invest $8.9 billion on grassroots construction projects

SUGAR LAND, Texas — According to research by Industrial Info Resources (IIR), more than 200 project spending plans within the food & beverage industry can be categorized as grassroot or greenfield construction projects.

IIR found that manufacturers and distributors have more than $8.9 billion tied to projects that are in the planning, engineering or construction phases, with scheduled completion dates as early as September of this year and as far out as August 2014.

Plans include construction on processing plants, warehouse and distribution centers, including cold storage facilities, grain storage facilities and bakeries.

Individual project values range from $1 million to $395 million, according to the study.
