Hanson Pipe & Precast provides materials for Waco, Texas, IH-35 project
WACO, Texas – Hanson Pipe & Precast, a leading manufacturer of concrete pipe and precast products, was selected to provide more than 130,000 feet of precast concrete pipe, box culverts and inlets for the McLennan County IH-35 project located near Waco, Texas. Hanson’s products will be used to move and manage basic stormwater runoff in a project designed to ease traffic congestion by widening nearly 20 miles of highway and frontage roads. Construction for the project began in October 2010 and completion is projected for late 2014.
Hanson Pipe & Precast was selected by Base Construction to provide project materials due to the economic benefits of Hanson’s products as well as the proximity of their facilities. The project’s use of precast concrete products provides the city with quality, pre-engineered products as a reliable, cost-efficient and sustainable solution for stormwater management. Hanson’s Waco and Austin facilities also allowed for use of local labor and materials, with all materials delivered from within 90 miles of the project site.
“We’re excited to help provide the benefit of decreased highway congestion to Texans and look forward to the finished product,” said Matt Daniel, director of strategic sales and sales manager of Hanson Pipe & Precast’s Austin, Texas facility. “We’ve overcome many challenges during the course of this project — such as difficult installation due to multiple intersections, existing utilities and bridge work — but the reduced project site labor due to off-site manufacturing allows us to make sure the project continues to operate on-schedule.”
The total cost of this state funded project is approximately $167 million, with a portion of that designated for precast concrete product provided by Hanson. To date, Hanson has provided more than 65,000 feet of round and square precast concrete product and is projected to deliver a total of more than 130,000 feet.
