International Paper Co. has announced it will close its container plant in Mason, Ohio, eliminating 93 jobs, according to the Associated Press. The paper manufacturer said in a filing with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services that the plant will close permanently, with layoffs taking place in December. International Paper didn’t give a reason for the closing. In October, the company announced a layoff of 40 people at its Albany, Oregon, containerboard plant, citing high costs and a poor economy. Based in Memphis, International Paper is the world''s largest pulp and paper producer, with total capacity of 17.2 million tons and 69,000 employees in operations across 40 countries. It employs approximately 2,500 people in the Memphis area.
