Jury awards ConAgra grain elevator explosion victims $181 million
ST. LOUIS — Three men who suffered severe burns inside a ConAgra Foods grain elevator in 2010 have been awarded $181 million by a federal jury, Bloomberg reported.
According to the lawsuit, the men were removing equipment from a concrete grain bin at ConAgra’s flour-milling site in Chester, Ill., when the bin exploded in flames.
The victims’ attorneys argued that the bin had not been properly cleaned in 20 years.
Omaha, Neb.-based ConAgra said it will appeal the ruling.
"While we have insurance policies that we believe cover the full amount of this judgment, we will further defend our actions and practices as this case continues," ConAgra said in a statement.
