Kraft Foods Inc., the nation''s largest food manufacturer, said it is eliminating about 600 salaried positions as part of its 2004 plan targeting 6,000 job cuts by 2007, the Associated Press reports. The latest cuts are to occur by mid-November at several locations mostly in North America, including Kraft''s corporate base in suburban Chicago. They will bring the total eliminated under the 21-month-old restructuring to 5,200, leaving 800 positions yet to identify. About 250 of the jobs being eliminated are at Kraft''s North America commercial foods division, with Kraft''s Canadian operations being folded into that unit, spokeswoman Kris Charles said. Another 200 will be cut from the company''s global supply chain division and the other 150 are global corporate jobs, said Charles, who declined to cite specific numbers by location. Kraft also will be moving out of its leased office facility in Tarrytown, N.Y., next year, with employees there relocating to other company locations. Kraft has approximately 96,000 employees worldwide, including 56,000 in the United States and Canada.
