Kraft Foods Spent $870,000 Lobbying Government in First Quarter

The Associated Press reports that Kraft Foods Inc. spent $870,000 in the first quarter to lobby on food safety, nutrition standards and other business matters, according to a recent disclosure report. That is down from the $1 million the company spent in the previous quarter and up from the $770,000 spent in the first quarter of last year. The maker of Oreo cookies and Oscar Mayer hot dogs also lobbied on tax reform, agriculture and other issues in the January through March period. Besides Congress, Kraft lobbied the Food and Drug Administration, Departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services and the White House Office, according to the report filed April 20 with the House clerk''s office.
