Merck pays $37M to settle claims against Vioxx
CANADA — Merck will pay a maximum of C$37 million to settle all claims against its painkiller Vioxx in , InPharm reports. Canada
The settlement includes C$10 million in costs and fees, and will total between C$21.8 million and C$37 million (US$36.4 million), depending upon the number of eligible claims.
Vioxx is believed to have caused tens of thousands of heart attacks and sudden cardiac death between its approval in 1999 and 2004, when Merck removed it from the market.
