Ohio AG seeks tougher laws for oil & gas drilling industry

February 9, 2012

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine called for tougher environmental laws for the oil and gas industry Wednesday and advocated disclosures of the chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing, the Lancaster Eagle Gazette reported.

Specifically, DeWine is seeking to raise civil penalties for polluters from the current maximum of $20,000 per incident to $10,000 per day.

"Ohio''s laws simply are not adequate today," DeWine said.
