Praxair announces contracts with Pasadena Refining, China plant
According to Business Wire, Praxair, Inc. announced a long-term agreement with Pasadena Refining System, Inc. to provide hydrogen to its Pasadena, Texas refinery starting in April 2007. The hydrogen will be supplied from Praxair''s existing 310-mile Gulf Coast hydrogen system. Praxair''s hydrogen pipeline system is connected to a substantial portion of refining capacity on the U.S. Gulf Coast. Praxair''s Gulf Coast hydrogen supply capability will be approximately 700 million cubic feet per day (1,000,000 cubic meters per hour) upon start-up of new capacity later this year. Pasadena Refining System, Inc, was originally acquired from Crown Central Petroleum Corporation in January of 2005. The refinery is capable of processing 117,000 barrels per day of crude oil and other feedstocks. It is located on the Houston Ship Channel near the Washburn Tunnel. Globally, Praxair China has been awarded a 15-year contract from Jinlong Copper Co., Ltd. (Jinlong) to supply pipeline oxygen at their plant in Tongling, Anhui Province. Praxair China will build, own and operate three non-cryogenic oxygen systems with a total capacity of 14,100 cubic meters per hour (about 500 tons per day) to meet the requirements of Jinlong''s flash furnace-smelting process. The construction work is under way. The first system will be ready to supply oxygen to Jinlong in January 2007; the second one will begin operation in July of the same year; and the third will start up in August 2008.
