The heavy-duty pump is for pumping thickener underflow slurries in mining applications, with specific gravities of up to 2.2. The unit reliably pumps thickened slurry, a by-product of the process that filters out solid matter from the tailings material. After traveling through a Nickel Atmospheric Leach Circuit (NAL), where nickel, iron and other precious metals are leached from the ground matte slurry, the unit pumps the slurry, acid and process water into continuously stirred reactors before being transferred into a thickener. At that point, the underflow thickener is pumped into an autoclave circuit, while the resulting tailings and water is separated, clarified and recycled into the process. Advanced hose technology enables the pump to pump harsh underflow thickener dependably for long periods of time. Peristaltic hose pumps are virtually maintenance free with no expensive seals to replace, no check valves to clog, and no rotors and stators to wear out. Unlike other pump types, the high levels of abrasives in the slurry do not affect pump life, according to the manufacturer. With the self-loading design, hose replacement is quick and easy. The combination of these features makes the pump an enduring solution for tough coal preparation applications.
